Oral Hygiene GBT
The importance of Oral Hygiene
Bacterial plaque results from accumulated food remains, bacteria, and saliva in the oral cavity. If it is not removed effectively through brushing and flossing, it leads to gum inflammation and potentiates the appearance of dental decay.
But, despite the importance of daily oral hygiene care, it is fundamental that, periodically, professional cleaning is conducted by the Oral Hygienist. This professional can eliminate bacterial plaque and tartar more effectively than at home.
Thus, oral hygiene results from teamwork between the Oral Hygienist and the patient, successfully eliminating the leading cause of oral diseases: bacterial plaque.

How does it work?
Generally, at the Hugo Madeira Clinic, oral hygiene appointments are divided into 6 stages:
- Diagnosis;
- Bacterial plaque revealing;
- Motivational and Instructive oral hygiene habits;
- Scaling and removal of pigment;
- Re-evaluation;
- Dental remineralisation.
The removal of bacterial plaque and tartar – through scaling and root planing, which consists of scraping the tooth surfaces – allows:
- Treat gingivitis and periodontitis, achieving a healthier gum;
- Control the appearance of caries lesions;
- Remove extrinsic pigments caused by food or tobacco.
Safe and minimally invasive
At the Hugo Madeira Clinic, we follow the GBT – Guided Biofilm Therapy protocol, which consists of minimally invasive and totally safe treatment.
This method, which is more comfortable for the patient, uses a dye that reveals the existence of biofilm (bacterial plaque). Therefore, it is easier to identify the areas of a greater incidence of biofilm, and hygiene becomes more effective.
An irresistible smile
Teeth whitening is one of the most requested aesthetic treatments. It is simple to perform, and the smile becomes more beautiful and radiant!
Nowadays, many homemade solutions for dental whitening promise great results, but many of them can harm your Oral Health and general health. The ideal thing is always to carry out the treatment with the guidance of qualified and certified professionals to ensure you whiten your teeth without damaging them.
