Build a Personalised Treatment Plan with Your Dentist

Feb, 2024

There are many reasons for seeking a dentist, from the simplest cases to a total smile makeover through dental contact lenses (veneers) or a fixed total bridge on implants. However, everyone is looking for the same outcome: a new smile that brings a new start to life.

In this sense, it is essential to draw up and adapt the treatment plan to each individual’s expectations, looking beyond the symptoms and diagnosis and seeking to get to know the individual and their reality better.

At the Hugo Madeira Clinic we strive to achieve a real transformation in the health, beauty and self-confidence of all our patients. To this end, the first time you visit our clinic, we carry out the necessary examinations for a complete diagnosis, including orthopantomography, photographs and a scan of your mouth. Using these tools, it is possible to create a digital smile before you even start your treatment, i.e. Digital Smile Design will build and design the smile to your expectations and you will be able to see at that moment what your new smile will look like.

The treatment plan will therefore include in detail all the indications drawn up by the medical team to completely rehabilitate your smile and will be adapted to your needs, presenting the ideal solution for your treatment.

Ask all the questions you may have, be curious;

The most important thing is to listen to and understand the patient, in order to be involved in a way that makes them feel comfortable. In this way, the patient’s referral should be as humanised as possible, with the assumption of a rewarding and comfortable service, in which it is possible for there to be communication between dentist and patient, guiding them towards the reality and the treatment possibilities that are in fact a priority.

There are many factors that must be taken into account when developing a personalised health plan, such as:

  • The state of your health in general;
  • The time or total number of appointments that will be needed;
  • The influence it will have on your life quality;
  • Financial/professional availability;
  • The balance between the end result and your expectations.

A personalized dental health plan; How important can it be for you?

A patient may need total rehabilitation but it may not be justified immediately, for personal reasons, other health problems or simply because it’s not the right time. However, you can plan the right time for this intervention.

Imagine that you have controlled periodontitis: together with your dentist, and depending on your expectations, you can decide whether to move towards a more effective and lasting solution through a total fixed bridge on implants, which allows you to have new teeth in a day and guarantees immediate aesthetics and function, or if on the other hand you prefer to try to keep your teeth by controlling periodontal disease, knowing that you always have another solution as an option.

For those who want to have dental contact lenses fitted because they don’t like the shade or shape of their teeth but, for whatever reason, can’t have this treatment at the moment, they can have their teeth whitened to a colour they like better and then have the contact lenses fitted when it’s more convenient.

For example, if you don’t have as much time for treatment or if you don’t live in Lisbon, you can adapt your treatment plan in terms of health and aesthetics, dividing it into phases or shortening and conditioning the necessary treatments, always guaranteeing the highest quality.

Other more personal factors also have a direct influence: if you have a phobia of dentists, or if you’ve had one or more traumatic experiences with dental treatments in the past, there are techniques and therapies that can make all the difference, such as homeopathic treatments and aromatherapy, as well as conscious sedation, which in very anxious patients is a good way to relax and calm them down, allowing for greater comfort and minimising any uncomfortable feelings.

There are no ideal treatment plans;

Always remember that each case is different and the treatment plan should reflect this, as it is a construction of both the clinician and the patient. Here at the Hugo Madeira Clinic, we are available to adapt your treatment plan to your expectations, taking into account the best possible outcome and ensuring that all steps and planning are carried out in collaboration with you.
